FF UNAIR Community Service Team Educates Telang Flowers to Residents of Rungkut Surabaya
Still in the series of activities for the 60th Anniversary, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Airlangga University (FF UNAIR) once again held community service (community service). This community service activity was chaired by Prof. Dr. apt. Juni Ekowati, M.Si. involving lecturers and staff from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, experts from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNAIR and students.
Entitled "Improving the Quality of Production and Marketing of Telang Flower Based Health Drinks for PKK Women, Rungkut District, Surabaya in Support of SDGs 3 Good Health and Well Being," this community service was successfully held on September 29 2023. This activity took place at the RW 04 hall, Penjaringan Sari Village, Rungkut District, Surabaya and was attended by 26 PKK mothers.
As the title suggests, the aim of this community service is to improve the quality and marketing of butterfly pea flower-based health drinks. The reason is that many butterfly pea flowers grow in the yards of local residents, but they experience problems in processing them.
The agenda begins with a presentation of material on how to process simplicia well. Apart from that, the benefits of butterfly pea flowers are also explained. Next, training was carried out on making beverage products from butterfly pea flowers that can be stored, namely in the form of syrup and instant powdered drinks.
Not only that, Mrs. Sylva Alif Rusmita, SE., CIFP. experts from FEB UNAIR also explained several strategies in building products, including effective ways to offer unique products both in terms of taste and packaging.
Through this activity, residents are expected to be able to process telang flowers properly so that the resulting product is of high quality to improve the quality of public health as well as to achieve SDGs 3 Good Health and Well Being. Apart from that, it can also improve the economy of residents through butterfly pea flower products which have sales value, thus supporting the achievement of SDGs 1 No Poverty.
Not only providing education, the FF UNAIR Community Service team also donated a Food Dehydrator, which is a tool for producing simple ingredients as well as a book about Packaging, Labels and Nutritional Information on MSME Processed Food Products by FF UNAIR apt lecturers.
