The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Airlangga (FF UNAIR) once again organized Jamu Fest 2026, an educational and creative event that has now entered its third year of implementation. The activity took place over three days, June 15-18, 2026 in the Lobby of the Nani Building, Campus C UNAIR. Through this event, students showcased various herbal medicine products they created, combining traditional values with modern touches.
Jamu Fest is part of the implementation of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine (OTK) course, which serves as a platform for students to exhibit the results of their creativity and innovation. In this activity, students are not only expected to formulate herbal medicines based on scientific formulations learned during lectures, but are also challenged to package products in an appealing way to make them more relevant to current trends and community needs.
Various herbal medicine products with unique and innovative concepts were displayed by students. Many presented modern packaging, creative brand identities, and attractive promotional strategies that captured visitors' attention. This demonstrated that herbal medicine can not only be preserved as a cultural heritage but also has significant potential to develop as a health product appealing to younger generations.
The Coordinator of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine (OTK) course at the Faculty of Pharmacy UNAIR, Prof. Dr. apt. Wiwied Ekasari, M.Si., explained that Jamu Fest represents the final stage of a comprehensive learning process that students have undergone.
"After receiving the theory, formulating, and evaluation, students are required to showcase their herbal medicine products so they can introduce herbal medicine to the campus and broader community," she said.
Furthermore, Prof. Wiwied expressed hope that this activity would foster student awareness to apply herbal medicine use in daily life, not only for themselves but also for their families and communities through various forms of education.
Appreciation was also expressed by Vice Dean I of FF UNAIR, Prof. apt. Helmy Yusuf, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., who viewed Jamu Fest as an effective and enjoyable learning method. According to him, this practice-based and exhibition-oriented learning approach is capable of enhancing student understanding of the material studied.
"The student creativity at this event is remarkable; they are also preserving herbal medicine as part of Indonesia's cultural heritage," he said.
The Jamu Fest 2026 event served as an educational medium for the community to learn more about the benefits and potential of herbal medicine as part of today's healthy lifestyle. Additionally, the implementation of Jamu Fest supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through promotion of health based on natural materials, as well as SDG 4 (Quality Education) through innovative learning that integrates theory with community practice.
