The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga (FF UNAIR) in collaboration with the HPTLC Association Indonesia Chapter hosted an international webinar titled "The Powers of HP-TLC: Understanding the Science Behind The Practice." The event was held online via Zoom Meeting on Monday (25/5/2026).
The webinar brought together experts in High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HP-TLC) and drew participants from academia, research, student communities, and industry practitioners. The agenda was divided into two main sessions covering both the foundational concepts and real-world applications of HP-TLC technology in pharmaceutical research and industry.
The first session featured Dr. Tien Do as the keynote speaker. In her presentation, she systematically walked participants through the steps involved in using HP-TLC for quality assurance of natural product-based products. The material covered the full analytical workflow, from sample preparation and chromatogram development through to data processing and interpretation.
Dr. Tien Do also explained the importance of system suitability testing (SST) in HP-TLC analysis as a key component in ensuring the validity and consistency of test results. Her comprehensive explanation gave participants an in-depth understanding of modern analytical standards for natural product testing.
The second session featured Prof. Dr. apt. Idha Kusumawati, M.Si., who discussed the practical applications of HP-TLC in both research and industry settings. She explained how HP-TLC technology is used to support pharmaceutical research, herbal product development, and quality control processes in the industrial sector.
Through a range of application examples, Prof. Idha also highlighted that HP-TLC stands as one of the more significant analytical methods in natural product-based development, valued for being effective, efficient, and capable of delivering accurate analytical results.
The event aligns with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 17 on Partnerships for the Goals, through strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions, international organizations, and academics and practitioners in advancing science and innovation in the field of pharmacy.
