Professor of the FF UNAIR, Prof. apt. Rr. Retno Widyowati, S.Si., M.Pharm., Ph.D., attended the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) of the Jatim Melaju Research Program 2026 Progress Report held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at Universitas Brawijaya. This activity was part of the evaluation of various research projects that received funding through the Jatim Melaju Research Program 2026.
During this opportunity, Prof. Retno was present as the head of a research team leading a study titled “Potential of Local Microalgae as Value-Added for Maritime Products in Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant Agents in Osteoarthritis Management.” The research proposal successfully obtained funding from the Jatim Melaju Research Program 2026 as a form of support for the development of leading research oriented toward the utilization of local resource potential.
This research focuses on exploring local microalgae as a value-added raw material with potential to be developed into anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents to support osteoarthritis management. Through a multidisciplinary approach, this research is expected to produce innovations based on Indonesia’s maritime resources that can contribute to the development of knowledge, health, and marine-based industry.
The research is implemented through cross-university collaboration involving Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Negeri Malang, and Universitas Jember. Furthermore, this research is also supported by government partners, namely the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia through the Directorate General of Aquaculture, Brackish Water Aquaculture Center Situbondo. This collaboration represents synergy between academia and government in promoting the implementation of research results based on national maritime potential.
Through this monitoring and evaluation activity, each research team presented the progress of research implementation, achievements that have been attained, and follow-up plans until the end of the research period. This evaluation aimed to ensure that all research programs proceed according to targets, both from the aspect of scientific output and the potential for research output and the potential for research result implementation.
Prof. Retno’s participation in the Jatim Melaju Research Program 2026 demonstrates FF UNAIR’s commitment to producing quality research with impact for society. Through strategic collaboration and utilization of Indonesia’s natural resource wealth, FF UNAIR continues to contribute to bringing innovations that support health sector development while strengthening the competitiveness of natural research, in line with the achievement of SDGs 9 and SDGs 17.
