UNAIR FF Alumna, Dr. Lucia Rizka Andalusia, Director General of Pharmacy and Medical Devices, Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia, Shows Extraordinary Performance

The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga (FF UNAIR) has once again achieved a proud achievement through the achievements of one of its alumni, Dr. apt. Lucia Rizka Andalusia, M.Pharm., who currently serves as Director General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices at the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes RI). This achievement is concrete evidence of the contribution of FF UNAIR alumni to advancing the national health sector.

Since assuming the position of Director General of Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices, Dr. Lucia has demonstrated exceptional performance in driving significant growth in the Indonesian pharmaceutical and medical device industry. Under her leadership, the medical device sector has experienced a significant surge in development, including a 2.5-fold increase in the number of medical device manufacturers. This development strengthens Indonesia's position towards medical device independence and reduces dependence on imported products.

Furthermore, the pharmaceutical raw materials (BBO) industry has also experienced a positive trend, particularly for products with high consumption and demand, such as vaccines and biological products. This push for BBO development is a crucial strategy in strengthening the resilience of the national pharmaceutical sector.

Despite these many impressive achievements, Dr. Lucia continued to emphasize that significant challenges remain, particularly in the supply chain. According to her, strengthening the supply chain is key to ensuring a stable, independent, and sustainable pharmaceutical and medical device ecosystem.

She emphasized the need for close collaboration between the government, industry players, academics, and the community to create true industrial independence. This joint effort is believed to lead Indonesia towards a resilient healthcare ecosystem capable of competing globally, and less dependent on imports.

The Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) UNAIR expressed its appreciation and pride for Dr. Lucia's work, which not only brings honor to her alma mater but also has a tangible impact on the nation's progress. Her contributions inspire the academic community and the younger generation of Indonesian pharmacists to continue to excel and contribute to the nation.
