Transforming Local Potential into Innovation: Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga (FF UNAIR) and PUI-PT SCT Educate the Madiun Community to Develop Cocoa-Based Cosmetics
The Faculty of Pharmacy in collaboration with PUI-PT Skin Health and Cosmetic Technology, Airlangga University held a community service activity in Madiun Regency on Saturday, November 1, 2025. This activity carried the theme "Innovation of Healthy and Halal Cocoa Products as a Driver of the Village Economy through Rumah Coklat Bodag, Madiun Regency, East Java Province".
The activity was enthusiastically welcomed by the local community who came to gain knowledge about the use of local natural materials, especially cocoa. Through this activity, FF UNAIR and PUI-PT SCT are committed to supporting the increase in added value of local products and community empowerment through natural product innovation based on regional potential.
In this activity, the speaker was the Chairperson of PUI-PT SCT, Prof. Dr. apt. Tristiana Erawati Munandar, M.Si., provided material on the use of cocoa bean skin as a high-value ingredient in natural cosmetic formulations. Meanwhile, the second resource person was Prof. apt. Rr. Retno Widyowati, M.Pharm., Ph.D., explained how to prepare standardized simplicia.
In addition to providing direct benefits to the community, this community service activity is also in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 3 through the development of natural cosmetic products that are safe for health, SDG 4 by providing education and training to the community, and SDG 9 through encouraging local industrial innovation based on the potential of regional natural resources.
Through this activity, it is hoped that the people of Madiun, especially MSMEs and cocoa farmers, can gain new insights and be inspired to develop innovative natural products based on local potential. In addition, it is hoped that the community will be able to improve the regional economy while strengthening the synergy between academics and the community.
