Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) UNAIR Collaborates with PUI-PT SCT UNAIR to Provide Community Service through Natural Ingredients-Based Cosmetics Production Training in Magetan

The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga (FF UNAIR), in collaboration with the PUI-PT Skin Health and Cosmetic Technology (Skin and Cosmetic Technology/SCT Center of Excellence) UNAIR, once again demonstrated its commitment to making a real contribution to the community through community service activities. This was realized through the implementation of "Training on Good Cosmetic Manufacturing Practices (CPKB) and Mentoring in Making Cleansing Balm and Clay Mask" in Magetan Regency on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

This activity was made possible through a collaboration with the Tiara Kusuma Branch Leadership Council (DPC) of Magetan Regency, an organization that represents local beauty experts and salon entrepreneurs. Thirty participants enthusiastically participated in the activity, from theoretical explanations of CPKB principles to hands-on practice in making cosmetics from natural ingredients from Indonesia.

The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy UNAIR, Prof. apt. Dewi Melani Hariyadi, M.Phil., Ph.D., explained that community service is a manifestation of the university's academic responsibility to provide benefits to the public. She emphasized that this activity is also in line with Airlangga University's Impactful Campus program, which focuses on improving the quality of life of the community through the use of technology and cross-sector collaboration.

"We want the research findings of lecturers and students to be used to produce products that are beneficial for skin health. Cosmetics are not only for beauty, but also for health, and that is the main message of this activity," said Prof. Dewi.

She further added that this activity also serves as a forum for public outreach and opportunities for research collaboration. "If there are women's organizations or community groups interested in learning more about cosmetics, we are open to collaboration because UNAIR has many experts in this field," she added.

The Head of PUI-PT SCT UNAIR, Prof. Dr. apt. Tristiana Erawati M., M.Si., stated that this training is part of an effort to downstream natural-based cosmetic research so that research results can be directly utilized by the community.

"Through this activity, we want to increase public understanding of Good Cosmetic Manufacturing Practices and assist in the downstreaming of research-based cosmetic products," he explained.

He also revealed that UNAIR is offering unpaid internship opportunities for university and high school (SMA/SMK) students interested in pursuing a career in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. This program, he said, provides practical experience in understanding the process of making cosmetics that meet safe and standard standards. "Participants can learn about ingredients, formulation processes, and product safety aspects. So far, we have accepted interns from various regions in East Java, even from Brunei Darussalam, and soon from Malaysia," he added.

In the presentation session, Mr. Yusuf Alif Pratama, M.Farm., explained the basic concept of Good Cosmetic Manufacturing Practices (CPKB) as an important foundation for ensuring the quality and safety of cosmetic products.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Tiara Kusuma Branch of Magetan Regency, Mrs. Titah Wahyu Husadani, expressed her appreciation for this activity. She hoped the knowledge gained by the participants would be shared with their colleagues and communities.

Through this training and mentoring program, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, and the PUI-PT SCT UNAIR strive to strengthen the capacity of local beauty businesses to produce safe, high-quality products that meet the standards of the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM). They also support the sustainable development of Indonesia's natural resource-based cosmetics industry. This activity also aligns with SDGs 4, "Quality Education."
