Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) UNAIR Encourages Gili Iyang Community to Innovate Products Made from Sea Grapes
The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga (FF UNAIR), once again held a community service activity on Gili Iyang Island, Sumenep Regency, Madura, on October 17-18, 2025. This activity has become an annual routine program held by FF UNAIR as a tangible contribution to empowering coastal communities.
This year's community service activity carried the theme "Education and Training in Making Natural Products from Sea Grapes." The Gili Iyang community was very enthusiastic about participating in the activity from beginning to end.
During the activity, the FF UNAIR community service team provided education on the vast potential of sea grapes, one of Gili Iyang Island's main commodities. Sea grapes are also known to have numerous health benefits. The team also encouraged the community to develop their potential into various value-added products.
As part of the training, the community was taught to make innovative processed products from sea grapes, such as syrup with added ginger for enhanced benefits, and sea grape biscuits that are delicious and highly nutritious.
Through this activity, Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences (FF) UNAIR hopes that Gili Iyang's local potential can be further developed, while also supporting the community's economic independence based on local natural resources. Furthermore, this community service program also demonstrates the university's role in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
