Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) UNAIR Holds Community Service in Karanganyar to Increase Public Knowledge About Medicine
Today (September 7, 2025), the Faculty of Pharmacy, Airlangga University (FF UNAIR), conducted various community service activities in Girilayu Village, Karanganyar Regency. The goal of this activity was to empower the local community through education on medication management, the use of traditional medicine, the development of aromatherapy products, and the development of batik cultural heritage with medicinal plant motifs.
The head of this activity, Mrs. apt. Rosita Handayani, M.Si., stated that Girilayu Village has great potential as a tourist destination, combining natural beauty and cultural richness. Furthermore, they offer hand-drawn batik crafts passed down from their grandparents.
Currently, there are around 12 batik artisan associations developing distinctive motifs such as Manggisan and Mbok Semok.
In addition to developing batik, this community service activity also focuses on increasing public knowledge about medication management in the household.
By collaborating with the Airlangga Pharmacy pharmacy unit, the community is taught how to obtain, use, store, and dispose of medications safely and rationally. They were also trained in making and using traditional medicines and producing aromatherapy products such as roll-ons, candles, and herbal infusions from the village's abundant aromatic plants. Fifty residents of Girilaya Village participated in the activity.
With various innovations, Faculty of Pharmacy UNAIR is committed to participating in developing Girilayu Village as a tourist destination that is not only enjoyable but also empowering and sustainable, in line with SDG 3.
