FF UNAIR Students Initiate C-Mouth Oral Cancer Screening Innovation
Students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga (FF UNAIR) continue to achieve achievements in various competitions. Together with 4 other team members from several faculties in UNAIR, Rosinta Dewi Anggraeni won many awards at the 2025 Mandalika Essay Competition.
The competition organized by the Setara Prisma Nusantara Institution (Nusantara Muda) carried the theme "Youth Dedication in Utilizing Technology for a More Superior Indonesia". The prestigious activity took place on Saturday-Monday (22-24/2/2025) at Nahdlatul Wathan University, Mataram, Lombok, NTB.
Rosinta and the other C-MOUTH Team had an innovative idea in the form of developing an early detection application for oral cancer based on machine learning. They managed to bring home several awards, including the Gold Medal, Best Presentation, and 2nd Place in MEC. Even contributed most of UNAIR's points to become the General Champion of MEC 2025.
"This application can later be used by health workers and the general public because it is designed to be fast, accurate, and reliable. In addition to oral cancer screening, this application is also complete with various other features that can also support the validity of C-MOUTH. For example, the Validity Doctor Check feature allows patients to consult directly with doctors regarding screening results," said Wildan, the Team Leader.
Wildan said that the application is currently still in prototype form which the team will later develop through collaboration with UNAIR Dental and Oral Hospital and Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya. The implementation of C-MOUTH also includes verification, validation, and issuance of ethical clearance from the Indonesian Ministry of Health.
The plan is for the application to be launched on the Play Store, App Store, and the official C-MOUTH website, and even expanded to areas with the highest prevalence of oral cancer in Indonesia.
