Implementation of the First Day of the Marine Drug Discovery and Development Conference
Today, 4 September 2024, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Airlangga University (FF UNAIR) has successfully carried out a series of activities on the first day of the Marine Drug Discovery and Development Conference. International conference activities chaired by Mr. apt. Andang Miatmoko, S.Farm., M.Pharm.Sci., Ph.D. This will last for 2 days until September 5 2024 at the Morazen Hotel Surabaya.
On the first day there were great speakers from several world-renowned universities who have often collaborated with FF UNAIR. FF UNAIR successfully utilized this collaboration to share extensive knowledge from the perspective of experts from various countries so as to support SDGs 17. More than 80 participants from various institutions in several countries attended this activity.
On this first day, there were 2 plenary sessions, 2 oral presentation sessions, and 1 poster presentation session.
After the opening ceremony and remarks from the Dean of FF UNAIR, Prof. apt. Junaidi Khotib, M.Kes., Ph.D. The event began with a presentation of material by Prof. Khuloud Al-Jamal from King's College London, England. He presented interesting material entitled "Polymeric nanocapsules for loading and delivery of naturally occurring agents for tumor therapy in vitro and in vivo".
After that, it continued with plenary session 1 which was moderated by Mr. apt. Andi Hermansyah, Ph.D. In this session there were 3 speakers sharing interesting knowledge.
The first material entitled "Mechanism of immunomodulation by the short chain fatty acid butyrate" was delivered by Prof. Dr. Gaeert van den Bogaart from the University of Groningen, Netherlands. Next, Prof. Minoru Narita from Hoshi University in Japan explained "Cancer neuroscientific analysis of diverse cancer pathologies by using marine-derived materials". Then it closed with a presentation of material by a Professor from Hasanuddin University Indonesia, namely Prof. Dr. rer. Nat. apt. Marianti A. Manggau regarding "Marine Drug Development and Delivery of Fucoidan for Enhanced Anti-Coagulant and Anti-Aging Activity: An Invivo Study in Mice Animal Model".
Meanwhile, in plenary session 2, material was presented by 2 speakers. The first speaker was Dr. Kishneth Palaniveloo from the University of Malaya Malaysia with the material entitled "Chemical Diversity of Marine Organisms: Exploring its role in Ecology and Drug Discovery". Then material related to "Marine Microbial Natural Products as New Drug Leads" was shared by Dr. Angela Salim from the University of Queensland, Australia. This session was successfully delivered by Mrs. apt. Suciati, Ph.D. as moderator.
Oral presentation and poster presentation sessions were held on the sidelines of the 2 plenary sessions.
