Increasing Information about Antacids through Booklet

Antacid drugs become one of the most commonly used drugs by the public. Antacids are one of the over-the-counter drugs that are available in a variety of trademarks, making them easy to obtain, both at pharmacies, supermarkets, and even grocery stores.

Antacids are used to treat various complaints in the stomach, such as ulcer or gastritis. Many people function them as a mandatory drug that must always be there both in the bag and at home. Along with the large number of antacid consumers, sufficient information is also needed about this drug. This information is needed by the community to avoid adverse effects that may occur, both due to errors in use and storage.

For this reason, Group D-2 of Community Pharmacy of Faculty of Pharmacy UNAIR prepared a health promotion media specifically to discuss antacids. The selected medium was a booklet that contained various important information about antacids. The booklet was presented with attractive and colorful illustrations so itwass more interesting to read. It is hoped that the community can easily understand and remember the information shared.

The booklet was then distributed for free at Health Care Center (PLK) in Campus B UNAIR, last Wednesday (27 November 2019). Not only distributing booklets, group members also provided education to the public about antacids. The PLK visitors also seemed enthusiastic to welcome health promotion conducted by students. They told a lot and shared experiences in using antacids.

Facts on the ground show that there were still many people who still did not know how to take antacid medicine correctly. They were quite surprised when they got information from the students and realized that what they had been doing was not right. For this reason, in order to increase public knowledge and information about antacids further health promotion activities are needed. With regular health promotion, it is hoped that the community can be wiser in using antacids. (*)
