UNAIR NEWS– World Health Day is one of international commemorations celebrated every year. World health day is an important momentum, especially for health workers to improve the quality of public health. No exception for students of Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga, who are the future health workers.
Conducted on Sunday April 21, the event titled Pharmacare World Health Day 2019 took place lively. Opened with longmarch, pharmacy students attracted the enthusiasm of visitors to Bungkul Park, Surabaya. The program continued with the provision of IEC (educational information counseling) to the community.
“The purpose of this event, in addition to celebrate World Health Day, was also held to introduce the public to the role of pharmacists,” explained Siti Umi Anisah, the person in charge of Pharmacare 2019. “In addition, we also want to invite people to adopt healthy lifestyles,” he added.
Through KIE, pharmacy students provide information regarding on how to store and destroy drugs properly. This is certainly a big responsibility, considering there are still many people who do not know about it.
“We need to provide IEC because there are still many people who do not know about the procedures for storing and destroying drugs,” said Umi.
Besides, there was also a free health check for the community, where they could find out their health conditions and the activity well received by visitors to Bungkul Park.
At the end of the event, students distributed questionnaires to visitors. The purpose was accommodate criticism and suggestions from the public. “We are grateful because the response was very good,” Umi explained.
Not only for the community, Pharmacare 2019 event also has a big impact on pharmacy students. Through this event, the students had the opportunity to interact directly to the community.
Meanwhile, Rival Yoga Sena, Head of Department of Community Service BEM Faculty of Pharmacy said that the event had been held for several years. The event was made to accommodate students to interact directly with the community and sharpen their social life skills.
“In addition, we also want to help the community in general, by providing information related to health through IEC and facilitating them to conduct health checks,” said Rival.
Through this event, he also hopes that people can care more about their health. Not only by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but also by using drugs wisely and precisely. (*)
