Dr.apt. Zamrotul Izzah, S.Farm.,M.Sc., and apt. Anila Impian Sukorini, S.Si.,M.Farm., lecturers at the FF UNAIR, participated in the International Community Engagement Program for Rational Use of Medicines and Sustainable Medication Practices in Brunei Darussalam in collaboration with Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The activity was held on October 14, 2026, in Brunei Darussalam.
During the activity, both FF UNAIR lecturers attended and contributed by providing counseling to the community on the importance of rational medication use and the implementation of sustainable medication practices. This participation represents one form of academic contribution in improving public understanding of appropriate, safe, and responsible medication use.
Rational medication use is an essential aspect in supporting therapeutic success and maintaining patient safety. Through educational and counseling activities, the community is expected to better understand the importance of using medications according to indication, dosage, method of administration, and duration recommended by healthcare professionals. In addition, proper medication management practices are also needed to reduce the risk of drug misuse and negative environmental impacts.
The involvement of FF UNAIR lecturers in this international program also reflects the role of higher education in integrating pharmaceutical knowledge with community service activities. Collaboration with Universiti Brunei Darussalam serves as a platform to strengthen knowledge exchange, expand international academic networks, and promote the implementation of pharmaceutical practices oriented toward public health and sustainability.
This participation aligns with the commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3: Good Health and Well-being, through improving health literacy and responsible medication use; SDG 4: Quality Education, through education and dissemination of knowledge to the public regarding rational medication use and sustainable medication practices; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through strengthening international collaboration between the Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Airlangga and Universiti Brunei Darussalam. This synergy is expected to increase public knowledge while supporting the realization of safe, appropriate, and sustainable medication use practices.
