As a form of support for strengthening the national health research and innovation ecosystem, Vice Dean I of FF UANIR attended the Launch Ceremony of the mRNA Dengue Vaccine Prototype held at the Ministry of Health of the Republic Indonesia, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
This activity was part of the Ministry of Health RI’s efforts to support the implementation of Health Resilience Transformation, particularly in encouraging the strengthening of research, innovation, and mastery of technology to achieve independence in pharmaceutical preparations, vaccines, and medical devices domestically. One of its implementations is reflected in the MoU between the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Health RI, with one of the main agendas being vaccine development. As an implementation of this MoU, the University of Indonesia and Tsinghua University established a strategic collaboration in the development of an mRNA-based dengue vaccine. The launch of this prototype represents tangible evidence of multi-stakeholder support for the joint development between the two higher education institutions.
This event featured several keynote speeches from representatives of LPDP, BPOM, and BRIN, discussing various perspectives on strengthening research and national vaccine independence. The series of events then continued with a flagship session that featured a presentation from the University of Indonesia on the design and characteristics of the Indonesian and Chinese mRNA dengue vaccine prototype, as well as presentation from Tsinghua University on international collaboration in accelerating vaccine development from the research stage to clinical translation.
Through this meeting, it is hoped that it can achieve strengthening of the foundation for sustainable bilateral cooperation under the MoU MoST, Ministry of Health, and the Jpint Action Plan of the Ministry of Health, Tsinghua University, increasing visibility and stakeholder confidence to support vaccine progress toward the preclinical/clinical development stage and domestic industrial production, as well as public and institutional recognition of the mRNA dengue vaccine prototype as a joint scientific achievement of Indonesia and China.
The presence of Vice Dean I of FF UNAIR in this activity reflects the commitment of the FF UNAIR to continue playing an active role in supporting national pharmaceutical and health independence, while expanding research collaboration networks at the international level. This participation also aligns with several SDGs, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through support for vaccine development as an effort to reduce the burden of infectious diseases, and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through contribution to strengthening research and independence in pharmaceutical technology domestically.
