As part of the International Conference of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ICPHS) 2026, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Airlangga (FF UNAIR) organized a workshop titled "Preparation of Halal Certification Documents" on Friday, June 19, 2026, in Room 6.4 of the Nani Building, Campus C UNAIR.
This workshop featured three experienced speakers in the field of halal certification: Dr. apt. Abdul Rahem, M.Kes., as Head of the Halal Center at Universitas Airlangga; Ir. Nanung Danar Dono, S.Pt., M.P., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN Eng., as Vice Director of the Halal Center at Universitas Gadjah Mada; and Mr. Atta Ullah, serving as Deputy Director of the Pakistan Halal Authority.
In their presentations, the speakers discussed various important aspects related to the preparation of halal certification documents, ranging from halal regulations and policies, halal product assurance systems, to implementation strategies and fulfillment of halal certification requirements in the pharmaceutical industry. The material presented also provided insights into the development of the halal ecosystem at both national and international levels, so participants obtained a comprehensive overview of the current standards and best practices.
Dr. Abdul Rahem emphasized the importance of comprehensive understanding of the halal certification process as part of efforts to enhance the competitiveness of pharmaceutical products. According to him, adequate document preparation is one of the key factors in supporting the smooth certification process while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
Meanwhile, Ir. Nanung Danar Dono shared experiences and best practices in implementing halal product assurance systems across various industrial sectors. He also explained the challenges frequently encountered in the certification process and strategic steps to ensure the sustainability of halal systems within industrial environments.
A global perspective was also presented by Mr. Atta Ullah, who outlined the development of international halal regulations and standards, particularly in Pakistan. Through this session, participants gained understanding regarding opportunities for harmonization of halal standards between countries that can support the development of the halal pharmaceutical industry in the global market.
The activity proceeded interactively with discussion and question-and-answer sessions that received high enthusiasm from participants. Various questions related to halal certification implementation, preparation of supporting documents, and opportunities for international collaboration became topics widely discussed during the workshop.
Through the organization of this workshop, FF UNAIR's Faculty of Pharmacy hopes to enhance the competence and understanding of participants regarding halal certification, while strengthening the institution's role in supporting the development of a quality halal pharmaceutical industry that is competitive and meets global standards.
