The Innovative Pharmacy Practice and Integrated Outcomes Research (INACORE) research group at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga (FF UNAIR) successfully held a two-day workshop on April 8–9, 2026. The event took place in the main session room of the Nani Building on Universitas Airlangga's Campus C, drawing participants from across Indonesia, including academics, researchers, and healthcare practitioners.
The workshop served as a platform for building capacity and fostering collaboration in evidence-based pharmacy practice, particularly in the areas of medication safety and medication review. Participants had the opportunity to engage directly with international experts on best practices for improving the safe use of medicines.
The first day centered on the theme "Advanced Medication Safety & Medication Review Practice," featuring Timothy Chen from The University of Sydney, Australia as the keynote speaker.
The opening session covered a presentation titled "Best Practices in Medication Safety: Global Evidence and Effective Application." In this session, Prof. Chen walked through various medication safety practices that have been implemented across different countries, and discussed how evidence-based approaches can be effectively adapted within healthcare systems.
Following the break for rest, prayer, and lunch (ishoma), the second session resumed under the title "Structured Medication Review: Frameworks, Documentation, and Patient-Centered Management Plans." Here, Prof. Chen explored systematic frameworks for conducting medication reviews, highlighting the importance of thorough documentation and the development of patient-centered therapy management plans.
The workshop ran in an interactive format, with lively discussion between the speaker and participants throughout. Prof. Chen also shared case examples and global practice experiences that helped participants better understand how medication safety translates into everyday pharmacy practice.
Through this event, INACORE hopes to strengthen academic and professional networks while driving improvements in the quality of pharmacy practice across Indonesia. The workshop also aligns with the global commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 17, which underscores the importance of international partnership and collaboration in advancing knowledge and improving healthcare quality.
