The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga (FF UNAIR), has once again demonstrated its strategic move in expanding international collaboration in higher education. During a busy schedule on October 13, 2025, Dean of FF UNAIR, Prof. apt. Dewi Melani Hariyadi, S.Si., M.Phil., Ph.D., stated that the double-degree program for the Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences (S2 MIF) and the Master of Pharmaceutical Industrial Practice (MPIP) from the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, has officially opened.
She explained that in the first year, students attend classroom lectures and a short internship in the Australian pharmaceutical industry, in collaboration with UQ. The following year, students are required to return to Indonesia to conduct their thesis research as a graduation requirement. During the thesis research process, students can be accompanied by a supervisor or supervising lecturer from both UNAIR and UQ, a process commonly referred to as joint supervision.
"The double degree curriculum review has been discussed, and it has been agreed that students pursuing a double degree at Faculty of Pharmacy Unair will have the opportunity to complete their first year at UQ and their second year at UNAIR," said Prof. Dewi.
Graduates of this program will receive two degrees simultaneously: an M.Farm from UNAIR and an M.PIP from UQ. They are also eligible to attend graduation ceremonies at both campuses.
Prof. Dewi emphasized that, although focused on industrial pharmacy, this program is not only for Bachelor of Pharmacy graduates. Graduates of Bachelor of Science degrees such as chemistry, biology, and chemical engineering are also welcome to apply. She added that other requirements set by UQ and UNAIR are the same as those required for LPDP scholarship applicants, including language scores and other documentation.
Regarding funding for their studies in Australia, students have the opportunity to receive a partial scholarship from UQ, scholarships from the Indonesian government, such as LPDP, or self-funded.
Prof. Dewi stated that this program offers excellent opportunities. In just two years, students can earn two degrees from a highly prestigious university, UQ, ranked 40th in the QS World University Rankings. Furthermore, students gain experience in the Australian pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore, if UQ also provides a positive assessment, they can receive a recommendation to pursue a doctoral degree there.
At the end of the interview, Prof. Dewi expressed her hope that UNAIR undergraduate students, whether in the pharmacy, pharmacist, or other science programs, would take advantage of this Double Degree program. This strategic program is expected to accelerate Universitas Airlangga's progress to the Top 200 World-Class Universities in the coming years.
