Integrated Leadership Training: Sowing the Seeds of Leadership in Pharmacy Students
The Integrated Leadership Training (LKT) is a mandatory program implemented by ISMAFARSI (Indonesian Student Executive Board for Pharmacy) and is mandatory for pharmacy students throughout Indonesia. Initially known as the Level 1 Leadership Training (LK1), the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Airlangga University (BEM FF UNAIR) innovated by changing the name to LKT.
In 2025, LKT adopted the theme "Efavirenz," meaning "Empowering Future Agents with Vision, Innovation, Resilience, and Ethical Leadership." This theme was chosen to emphasize LKT's goal of developing a generation of young pharmacists who are visionary, innovative, and resilient, while upholding ethical leadership.
Forging Oneself, Sowing Leadership
The main objective of LKT is to realize the LK1 program, long implemented by ISMAFARSI, and to provide a platform for pharmacy students to understand, organize, and lead themselves before they can eventually lead others. Through this activity, students are directed to develop leadership skills that are not only theoretical, but also applicable, while still emphasizing the importance of ethical values that must be upheld by a prospective pharmacist.
Knowledge for Young Leaders
Throughout the event, participants were equipped with various skills that form the foundation of leadership. Both compulsory and elective materials were presented to broaden students' horizons. These included an introduction to ISMAFARSI, a pharmacy student organization throughout Indonesia, organizational management, student potential, teamwork skills, and a discussion of the Ten Star Pharmacists, the identity of a pharmacist.
The Dynamics of a Three-Day Journey
This year's LKT process was originally planned for two days, August 30-31, 2025. However, unforeseen obstacles in the form of demonstrations forced the event to be rescheduled to three days. The first and second days were conducted online with the presentation of selected materials, while the third day, September 21, 2025, was filled with hands-on practice in the form of case studies. Through these case simulations, students practiced applying the theories they had learned, while also testing their problem-solving and leadership skills.
Legislative Class: Learning Campus Democracy
In addition to leadership practice, the final day of activities also included a legislative class led by the BLM FF UNAIR. This class aims to enable pharmacy students to understand the trial mechanism at FF UNAIR and at the same time realize that student organizations have a close relationship with the legislative process at the faculty.
Strengthening the Identity of Young Pharmacists
Ultimately, the LKT serves not only as an administrative requirement for new students who wish to be active in organizations at FF UNAIR, but also as a platform to develop themselves into leaders with character. Through a combination of materials, practices, and an introduction to organizational systems, pharmacy students are encouraged to strengthen their identity as prospective pharmacists who are not only academically competent but also mature leaders.
LKT and Contribution to the SDGs
The implementation of the LKT is also closely linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through the provision of materials on leadership, organizational management, and personal potential development, the LKT contributes to the achievement of SDG 4 (Quality Education) by encouraging quality education that focuses on strengthening students' non-academic skills. Furthermore, this activity aligns with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), particularly through the legislative class, which introduces campus democratic mechanisms and the importance of transparent and inclusive organizational governance. Thus, LKT is not only an internal event for pharmacy students, but also a concrete manifestation of students' role in supporting the achievement of the global agenda towards sustainable development.
