FF UNAIR Students Win Silver Medals at the Asian Youth Innovation Awards in Malaysia
Once again, students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Airlangga University (FF UNAIR) showed off in an international competition. FF UNAIR students are able to compete with other students from campuses in other parts of the world.
This was proven by the success of Chessa Failazhufa Waludri (Bachelor of Pharmacy Student Class of 2022) and Nida Elsa'adah Mazaya Yusron (Bachelor of Pharmacy Student Class of 2022) in bringing home a Silver medal at the Asian Youth Innovation Awards competition.
Together with 4 students from the Faculty of Nursing UNAIR, Chessa and Nida took part in the competition organized by the Malaysia Technology Expo at the World Trade Center, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This competition was held on 20-22 February 2025.
In this competition, Chessa and Nida presented the results of their research entitled "PEPHYTIN-DERM: Transforming Agricultural Weeds Into a Revolutionary Cooling and Antifungal Hydrogel Patch For Tinea Corporis and Tinea Pedis Healing".
The two proud FF UNAIR students made an innovative product in the form of a hydrogel patch from a combination of Chinese betel leaf extract (Peperomia pellucida L.) as an antifungal and mint leaf extract (Mentha Piperita) which can provide a cooling effect. The patch is able to treat fungal infections such as tinea pedis and tinea corporis. Apart from that, the form of the hydrogel patch is also considered more practical and efficient compared to other conventional medicines.
Happiness certainly appeared on Chessa and Nida's faces when they received this achievement. Of course, they also thank FF UNAIR and Prof. apt. Rr. Retno Widyowati, S.Sc., M.Pharm., Ph.D. who always supported and guided them until they succeeded in getting this award.
It is hoped that this achievement will be able to spur enthusiasm and motivation for FF UNAIR students to continue to achieve impressive achievements.
