UNAIR FF Lecturers Together with Lecturers from Several Other Universities Provide Education to Indonesian Migrant Workers in Malaysia

From April 29 to May 4 2024, the World University Association of Community Development (WUACD) Airlangga University in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) carried out community service activities. On this occasion, lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Airlangga University (FF UNAIR), namely Prof. Dr. apt. Wiwied Ekasari, M.Si. participate as a facilitator.

The aim of this activity is to encourage inclusive development and overcome the educational challenges faced by the children of Indonesian migrant workers. Apart from that, this activity also aims to strengthen collaboration between UNAIR and universities abroad to implement various useful activities. At that time there were dozens of participants. The program is a form of implementation of SDGs 4, namely Quality Education as well as SDGs 17 partnership for the goals.

Apart from being held at UTM, this activity was also carried out at the Consulate General in Johor Bahru with a focus on education related to increasing digital literacy, legal protection, and providing assistance for Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia, especially in Johor. The program also includes a visit to Kampung Sungai Melayu so participants can learn about the history and activities of the people in the area.

Not only lecturers, students were also invited to participate in this activity. This experience led them to meet and observe firsthand the conditions of legal and illegal migrant workers in the area. That way they can be directly involved in solving problems in society.
