FF UNAIR Holds Community Service in Sumenep Madura to Eradicate Tuberculosis

The prevalence of Tuberculosis (TB) in Bluto subdistrict, Sumenep, Madura is a health problem that must receive attention because it has claimed lives. The main problem of this problem is the public's lack of understanding that TB is an infectious disease.

Based on these facts, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Airlangga University (FF UNAIR) held community service activities or what is usually called community service in Bluto sub-district, Sumenep, Madura. The aim, of course, is to eradicate TB and educate residents regarding the transmission of this dangerous disease so that it does not spread further.

In this activity, which is an implementation of SDGs 3 "Good Health and Well-being", FF UNAIR collaborated with the Bluto Community Health Center, the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (IAI) Sumenep Branch Management, and the Sumenep District Health Service to participate in educating the public.

Carrying the theme "Training for Tuberculosis (TB) Response and Rational and Effective Medication Assistance (PMO) for Village Health Cadres in Sumenep Regency", this community service agenda was held on June 29 2024 at the Bluto Community Health Center.

Dr. apt. Abdul Rahem, M.Kes as the chief organizer explained that this activity was a form of effort to eradicate TB in Bluto District, which is one of the largest TB contributing loci in East Java.

In this activity, 55 people were involved, consisting of 50 health cadres from 20 villages in Bluto sub-district, and 5 drug managers from 5 nearby sub-district health centers. There are two materials presented in this activity. The first is an introduction to the symptoms of TB and the steps that must be taken by the community if they are found to be suffering from TB by doctor Andre Dwi Wahyudi, Sp.P as a pulmonary specialist at Moh Hospital. Anwar Sumenep. Then the second material was delivered by Dr. apt. Yuni Priyandani, Sp.FRS lecturer at FF UNAIR, about the use of drugs and how to deal with side effects of drugs.

This activity is FF UNAIR's academic responsibility to the community as the best pharmacy faculty in Indonesia. The community was very enthusiastic about participating in this activity and hoped that similar activities would be carried out with greater frequency.
