FF UNAIR Implements Community Service on Gili Iyang to Improve the Quality of Public Health
On Saturday, 19 October 2024, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Airlangga University (FF UNAIR) carried out community service (pengmas) activities on Gili Iyang Island, Sumenep, Madura. In the 2024 Airlangga Community Development Hub (ACDH) community service activity, FF UNAIR also collaborated with the Faculty of Medicine (FK) and Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV) UNAIR. The Health Service and the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (IAI) Sumenep and the Dungkek Community Health Center also participated in helping to make this activity a success.
In 2024, the implementation of community service on Gili Iyang will enter its 3rd year. The aim of this activity is to improve public health by providing free examinations and treatment to the Gili Iyang community. Of course, this is a concrete manifestation of FF UNAIR's contribution in supporting SDGs 3 "Good Health and Well-being" which focuses on the availability of health facilities for the community.
In this activity, people will be examined by a team of doctors from FK UNAIR, then they will be given medicine by a team of pharmacists from FF UNAIR according to the doctor's diagnosis. Not only that, massage services and acupuncture treatments are also provided by the team from FV UNAIR.
In this activity, free checks for blood sugar, cholesterol and uric acid were also carried out for the community.
At that time, this activity was attended by 100 local residents ranging from toddlers to the elderly. Through this activity, it was discovered that the health problems experienced by residents were very diverse, ranging from chronic diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, gout to problems with the respiratory tract, skin, eyes and so on.
Not only free health checks and treatment for the community, in this community service, FF UNAIR also built a TOGA park which can be used by the community.
