FF UNAIR Educates Residents and Students Regarding TOGA and Its Innovative Products
Through community service activities (pengmas) carried out on Thursday (12/6/2025), the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga (FF UNAIR) demonstrated its commitment to supporting public health. The activity was carried out in Kebalanpelang Village, Babat District, Lamongan as a form of assistance to the Independent Family Medicinal Plant Care (Asman TOGA) cadres. In addition, the target of the community service activities were students of MAN 2 Babat who were given education about the dangers of anemia and the importance of consuming nutritious foods by utilizing moringa leaves and spinach.
In addition to providing education to the community, the activity chaired by Dr. apt. Idha Kusumawati, M.Si. also introduced two innovative products, namely moringa leaf cendol and spinach dimsum. Both products are useful for overcoming anemia in adolescent girls.
"This year we are focusing on adolescent girls, who are a group vulnerable to anemia. We hope that with these innovative products, adolescent girls will be more interested in consuming vegetables," said Dr. Idha Kusumawati.
He added that this community service is a continuation of activities that have been carried out in previous years with an emphasis on preventing stunting among toddlers, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers.
Currently, anemia is still a significant health problem, especially among adolescent girls. The main cause of this is due to a lack of iron. Actually, iron can be obtained from consuming green vegetables, but many adolescent girls are reluctant to consume them because of the taste or unhealthy eating habits. This is where the innovation of moringa leaf cendol and spinach dimsum comes as a creative solution.
In addition to targeting adolescent girls, this community service also aims to empower TOGA cadres at the village level. The cadres receive technical training in product processing to marketing strategies. This activity opens up economic opportunities while strengthening the role of the community in health promotion.
This activity is in line with the goals of SDGs 3 which ensure a healthy life and improve welfare for all people of all ages. In addition, innovation in product development from moringa leaves and spinach can also increase economic competitiveness and is also a manifestation of SDGs 9.
