Ready for Competency-Based Curriculum Thesis of Pharmacy - Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences 2024

Ready for 2024 Competency-Based Curriculum Thesis of Pharmacy (KBK)

Ready for Thesis is a series of events provided by BEM FF UNAIR by inviting several lecturers as resource persons whose aim is to help students prepare and determine appropriate KBK choices for the thesis they choose later. Apart from that, the presenting lecturers will also explain the lecturers' research and projects that will be carried out.

Ready for Thesis on March 23 2024, this time it was held online by inviting several resource lecturers, including Prof. Dr. apt. Retno Sari, M.Sc, Prof. apt. Esti Hendradi, M.Sc., Ph.D, Prof. Prof. Dr. apt. Tristiana Erawati Munandar, MSi.

"In pharmacy you have to study and are expected to be able to design formulas so that students studying in pharmacy courses are able to design formulas. So the formulation of a dosage form and perhaps what you learned in DTPO 1 is studying one dosage form and having to know the names of many dosage forms of medicine. "Perhaps, based on its form, it may be solid, semi-solid and liquid, in its application there are sterile and non-sterile ones, not to mention the development of the drug," said Mrs. Dini.

KBK Pharmaceuticals has three (3) research groups, namely:

  1. RG Active Material Engineering, chaired by Prof. Dr. apt. Retno Sari, M.Sc.
  2. RG Drug Delivery System and Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology, chaired by Prof. apt. Esti Hendradi, M.Si., Ph.D
  3. RG Cosmetics, chaired by Prof. Prof. Dr. apt. Tristiana Erawati Munandar, MSi.

RG active ingredient engineering itself studies the characteristics for physicochemical mechanical bioavailability and to increase the effectiveness then engineering of excipients other than active pharmaceutical ingredients. Apart from that, students must be able to develop formulas from different active ingredients.

RG systems and Pharmaceutical nanotechnology study modern and herbal drug delivery systems for oral, parental, transdermal and inhalation routes for the therapy of cancer, degenerative diseases, as well as infections and non-infections.

Meanwhile, for RG cosmetics, the research that will be studied is the aspect of cosmetic raw material formulation consisting of active ingredients, excipients and delivery systems for the effectiveness of the delivery of active ingredients in the manufacturing process. In the excipient raw materials themselves, the raw materials can come from natural materials, either synthetic or from engineered materials.

In choosing a thesis at KBK Pharmacetika, students will get mandatory courses, namely DTPO 1, 2, and 3 which are obtained in semesters 4, 5, and 6. Not only that, to support students doing research at KBK Pharmacy, students also get courses lectures such as cosmetics and drug and nutritional delivery systems.

So is there a minimum IP and SKS standard in the thesis at KBK Pharmaceuticals?

Mrs. Dini explained, "as long as you meet the requirements, you can take it and now the study program has also opened an acceleration program to give undergraduate students the opportunity to graduate in less than 8 semesters with a GPA requirement of more than 3.50 and have fulfilled the requirements of 100 credits and no D grades. and E.

It was not only lecturers who presented material regarding theses at KBK Farnasetika, but there were also several names of students who took theses at KBK Farmasetika who participated in sharing their experiences, including Yossy (2020) and Aulia Fediani (2020). They both shared their experiences for other students who want and are interested in taking a thesis at KBK Pharmaceuticals by explaining the types of theses at KBK Pharmaceuticals, namely formulations that will become formulators used in the industrial world, then making preparations that will require evaluations and development of pharmaceutical preparations as well as manufacture of pharmaceutical preparations.

In her session, Ms. Aulia explained, "what is pharmaceuticals? Well, usually it is involved in activities related to the manufacture of preparations and there are also evaluations and also development of pharmaceutical preparations. So it depends on what field you are really interested in, for example if you want to develop topicals, that means you can take cosmetics.

Yossy also explained several things related to the Pharmaceutical KBK. “The advantages of research at KBK Pharmaceuticals are that it is very suitable for students who like to work for a long time. "There's nothing better than learning theory and practice at the same time and also valuable experience," said Kak Yossy.
