THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL ASSOCIATION OF INDONESIAN PHARMACY HIGHER EDUCATION YEAR OF 2022: JAMU AND BROMO SPECIAL HER

Exactly two weeks since August 18, 2022, The 3rd International Summer School reaches the end of the event on August 31, 2022. The enthusiasm of the participants can be seen from the large number of participants who register both online and on site. There were more than 1000 participants who took part in the online program and almost 100 people on site. This activity was attended by ten countries, including Nigeria, Egypt, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sudan, Yemen, Tanzania, Turkmenistan, and the Philippines. The closing ceremony was held in the form of a lecture as well as a webinar moderated by apt. Andi Hermansyah S.Farm, M.Sc., Ph.D. On this occasion, a number of prominent speakers were invited to provide material on the comprehensive utility of herbal medicine and the use of Indonesian traditional medicines.

The first material was presented by Dr. Dra. L. Riska Andalucia, Apt. M.Pharm., MARS who currently serves as Director General of Pharmacy and Medical Devices (Farmalkes) of the Indonesian Ministry of Health. Carrying the theme "Regulations for The Use of Herbal Medicine in Indonesia." He explained that the government has made efforts to smooth the circulation of domestic products through a Presidential Regulation (PP). “The Ministry of Health is committed to implementing the transformation of the primary health system through preventive and promotive methods. We also have an agenda to improve our capabilities and health services,” he said.

Furthermore, the material entitled “Pre and Post Control of Traditional Medicine Products” was interestingly reviewed by Dra. apt. Reri Indriani, M.Si. who served as Deputy for Supervision of Traditional Medicines, Health Supplements and Cosmetics. He emphasized that during the pre-market control and post-market control processes, the aim is to ensure product quality, efficacy, and safety are consistently guaranteed in manufacturing. “For example, in pre-market control of traditional medicines, ensuring the implementation of good manufacturing practices, drug registration, and registration of drugs to be advertised. Meanwhile, post-market control includes inspection of manufacturing and distribution processes, import-export licenses, sampling and testing, supervision, and pharmacovigilance," he explained.

The Director of the Center for Research and Development of Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicines of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia became the third speaker. Mr. Akhmad Saikhu, M.sc.PH carries the theme "Utilization of Jamu in the Community" and begins the material with the history of herbal medicine in Indonesia. He also explained about his research with RISTOJA for 10 years. “Through three processes of discovery, research, and pre-clinical development, we can determine the number of formulas. Then we will cooperate with the pharmaceutical industry regarding the incubation process," he explained.

The three materials ended with material that was no less interesting than the Director of the Airlangga University Hospital, Prof. Nasronudin, MD., PhD, Internist., Infectiologist, FINASIM. He brought the topic “Phytopharmaceutical Opportunities in Modern Therapy” and explained the important points for integrating phytopharmacy into modern therapy. There are six aspects that need to be considered including quality, intrinsic and extrinsic factors, regulatory influence, efficacy, safety, Quality Assurance (QA), and Quality Control (QC).
