FF UNAIR DEBATE TEAM WIN 1st WINNER IN NATIONAL PHARMACEUTICAL STUDENT DEBATE COMPETITION

The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga, once again welcomed the glorious achievement. This time, it was Hansel Alexander, Dhea Anggraini, and Tri Wahyudi's turn to win first place in the 8th Pharmacovent National Pharmacy Student Debate Competition.

In the competition organized by the University of Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka, Hansel-Dhea-Yudi need to go through three rounds. In the semifinals and finals, the motions to be debated are notified ten minutes before the debate begins.

Team leader Hansel Alexander explained that the motion obtained in the semifinals was the importance of pharmacoinformatics being included in the field of pharmaceutical science. "Then for the final, we got a motion to legalize marijuana for medical purposes," he continued.

In this debate competition, Hansel-Dhea-Yudi made intensive preparations. Although the competition is held online, they often practice in the same place by thoroughly reviewing a motion and doing case building.

In addition, they received input from their supervisor, Andi Hermansyah S.Farm., M.Sc., Ph.D. apt. According to Tri Wahyudi, the presence of the lecturer presented a different point of view during his team's practice.

“As a lecturer, he has more knowledge. We got new insights on how to dissect the motion,” explained Tri Wahyudi.

In addition to winning first place as a team, Hansel also received the title of best speaker. However, he admitted that he was neither ambitious nor prepared for this achievement. Hansel believes that in a debate competition, team members need to work together and not outperform each other. "Actually, this is a joint achievement, but I happened to be chosen by the jury as the best speaker," he said.

Regarding the motivation that drives the FF UNAIR debate team to achieve achievements, Dhea Anggraini, another team member, highlighted the benefits felt during participating in the debate competition, ranging from increasing knowledge to relationships.

"While still a student, don't just come to college. But you can also take part in the competition. That (debate competition) was the benefit I felt yesterday,” continued Dhea.

On the other hand, Hansel said that debating is a continuation of his interest in the world of public speaking. Plus the motion raised regarding pharmacy and in line with the family of knowledge he is studying at FF UNAIR.

“One thing in the world there are always two sides. And through the debate, we will be trained to see both sides,” he added.

In the future, the FF UNAIR debate team will again focus on winning the pharmaceutical debate competition. "From the four debates that have been followed since 2021, we have a record of winning continuously. So it's a good thing if this victory is maintained, "said Yudi.

Next, they will try to attract other pharmacy students who are interested in competing. By cooperating with the Scientific Pharmacy Forum (FOSIL), Hansel-Dhea-Yudi has carried out a series of trainings, namely introduction and procedures for debate competitions to simulations.

"My hope is not to give up, for this debate. There must be regeneration, “concluded Dhea.
