Applying Eye Drops Correctly to Improve Health

On Friday, 28 November 2019, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Health Service Center of Campus C UNAIR, group C3 had conducted health promotion with the theme of ophthalmic products. The material displayed was in the form of how to get, use, store, and dispose  eye drops. This health promotion aims to increase public awareness and knowledge regarding the use of corticosteroid eye drops.

When conducting a health promotion, the number of patients visiting the health care at campus c center was 19 visitors. Mostly, the visitors were women. The first thing to do when promoting health is to introduce yourself and ask about your willingness to become a health promotion participant. It was continued with questions from the visitors related to the experience of using eye drops, then the explanation of material regarding to the long-term effect of corticosteroid eye drops that could cause galukoma that went on for 10 minutes was also carried out. After that, the question and answer session was conducted where the participants mostly asked about "what is glaucoma?", "How is the storage of eye drops?", and "What is the example of corticosteroid group?". Many of the participants of this health promotion stored their eye drops for more than 30 days, then the information about the use of corticosteroid eye drops were obtained from people nearby without consulting a doctor first, and the use of drops that were not dripped in the right place.

The results of this health promotion showed that participants' enthusiasm in listening to the material was evidenced by the many questions asked. From filling in the questionnaire, there are suggestions that this kind of health promotion should be often carried out especially in the community, so that it can increase knowledge.
