As an effort to create a safe, healthy, and comfortable work space, and to ensure that the work place is free from diseases and accidents, the Occupational Health and Safety Unit (K3) NAIR in cooperation with the Faculty of Pharmacy UNAIR held the “Training for Hazard Recognition and Control in the Laboratory and Preventions to Fire Hazards in Universitas Airlangga” (21/4/2014).
This activity provides the knowledge and skills to laboratory superintendents, analysts, and lab tecnicians along with the staffs of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Testing Services Unit (ULP) to predict the emergence of hazards in the workplace. Participants are expected to be able to anticipate the emergence of possible hazards, be able to analyze hazards, and also be able to control those hazards.
This training was instructed by two expert speakers in Occupational Health and Safety. The first was Mulyono, S.Km., M.Kes, a lecturer of the Faculty of Public Health explaining the hazard recognition and control in laboratories. The second was Muchammad Nurtam, S.Sos., M.Si., the head of UPTD Surabaya explaining the protection against accidents.
Not only enriched with information, participants were also taught how to extinguish fire by Suwignyo Aryanto along with the team from the Surabaya Fire Department. The enthusiasm of participants raise when taught about the procedures to extinguish fire using various tools. Participants practice one after another to extinguish fire using the provided tools.
