Sharing Information about Medicine Management through Comics

Nowadays, medicine becomes something that is very common to the society. Medicines can be found in almost every home, whether as part of the therapy being undertaken, as a precaution, as the remains of the previous treatment, and as various other reasons. This shows that the community has understood the benefits of medicine in everyday life.

Unfortunately, this is not accompanied by good medicine storage and disposal practices. There are still many people who do not know how to store medicines that are being used and how to get rid of expired medicines. Improper storage and disposal practices of drugs can have a negative impact on both medicine users and the surrounding environment.

For this reason, Group D1 of Community Pharmacy held a health promotion activity. The theme that was carried out was about drug management in the family with comic media. This activity was carried out on Wednesday (27-11-2019) at the Health Service Center (PLK) Campus C UNAIR and surrounding areas.

The target of this activity is UNAIR academic communities who are doing activities around PLK. Lasted for three hours, a total of 51 comics and stickers were successfully distributed through this health promotion activity. Not only getting comics with interesting illustrations and stories, UNAIR academics could also get a complete explanation about the correct storage and disposal of medicines. The participants seemed very enthusiastic listening to the explanations of team members and were able to follow well.

An interesting thing that was encountered during the event was that there were still many people who did not know how to properly store and dispose of medicines. In addition, the public still did not know very well how the role of the pharmacist as a whole.

With this health promotion activity, it is hoped that the public can get more information about medicine management at home and more well understand the role of pharmacists. To increase public knowledge more broadly and thoroughly, easy access is needed related to medicine management and educational activities that are held regularly.
