Pharmacists Have the Duty to Prevent Drug Abuse

Drug abuse, especially for narcotics and dangerous drugs, is suspected to be used as a systematic effort to damage the character of Indonesian teenagers so that their quality of life decreases. According to the National Anti-Narcotics Agency, the proportion of drug consumers among students has reached a very troubling condition of 27%. This happens because of several factors, such as individual factors, environmental factors, family factors, and the efforts to damage the young generation of Indonesia.

In addition to narcotics, many adolescents abuse drugs, especially psychotropic drugs. The existence of people who seek profits without paying attention to the impact caused, has tried to circulate psychotropic drugs and narcotics widely. This results in how easy teenagers get psychotropic drugs and narcotics, especially teenagers who have not been mature and stable, therefore they want to try.

Drug and drug abuse are very dangerous because they have several side effects such as the following: a). Physical aspects: getting easily sick and infected with HIV-AIDS and causing dependence; b). Social Aspects: becoming threats to the family and the community, often commiting crimes, causing traffic accident, and stealing; c). Strategic Aspects: damaging morality and patriotism, threatening the national resilience; and d). Danger to health. Health disorders due to drug abuse include: suppressing the central nervous system, reducing the functional activities of the body, making the consumers "high", unconsciously sleeping, disturbing the consciousness, and causing peripheral nerve damage, convulsions, disorders of the heart, and blood vessels

All of the above description cannot be separated from the role of the Pharmacist as a health worker which is in accordance with Government Regulation number 51 of 2009 concerning Pharmaceutical Work. Professional Pharmacists are Pharmacists whose service always implements the Pharmacist Oath, and is based on standard operating procedures and the Indonesian Pharmacist Code of Ethics, so that they can personally determine attitudes, decisions. and actions that can be accounted for. One of the Pharmaceutical Duties is to provide drug information services, in the form of providing IEC (Communication Information and Education) to the public about drugs and Pharmaceutical Preparations. IEC include counseling, among others, is carried out to avoid misuse of drugs and drug abuse.

Increased tourism as an effort to increase foreign exchange, can have an impact on the behavior of the Indonesian population, especially adolescents.
